Hi, I am considering joining EOHC. It is close to home... Was wondering if there are any smallbore competitions/matches there? Their website is out of date, I see that there is a service rifle shoot there and that they (or at least used to) have action shooting with .22 rifles back in 2002... Are there any members here that can fill me in? Also, I see that smallbore rifles are allowed on the 50yard range, but could I set up targets at 20yards for practce?

I'm a member there so to speak....
We have an active rifle club that has matches, I'm not sure if they dedicate any matches to smallbore.

Yes, you can place your targets at any distance you want. Except on the 100/200m rifle range, only fixed targets allowed at 100 or 200 meters.

22 action shoots do happen anymore. Simply beacuse nobody organizes them.

EOHC has thrice-yearly Milshoots that have an "Open" category (e.g. not milsurps) that you would be welcome to participate in. Others with 22 rimfires have participated and done very well in the 100yd stages, but understandably can't compete with the top shooters at 200 yds, i.e. against 308 target rifles for example.

Anyone waiting for someone else to organize events is setting themselves up to be dissapointed. There's nothing stopping you from organizing your own shoots though. The club is very supportive of making maximum use of the facilities.

If you’re interested in smallbore than you may want to look at the RA Gun Club in Ottawa. It’s an indoor range that allows smallbore (22lr) all year round. The range is 25yrds.

We hold the Lakeshore Smallbore Association competitions every year – we just completed this year and we are one of the host clubs for the provincial indoor championship this April. A large number of our members also compete in the National competition which takes place up in Beachburg.

The RAGC also holds its club competition this April and we also have a very active pistol section.
