Eotech Decision - 65moa ring w/1moa dot OR just 1moa dot

I want an Eotech. Most commonly available seems to be the 65moa ring with the 1moa dot. I personally think I'd prefer just the 1moa dot with nothing else. But, I've never used either, so I don't know what to do?

My reasons for feeling this way are less clutter for easier viewing, and faster precision. I understand some people say the 65moa ring helps with faster target acquisition at close range, but I think that would be negligible compared to the ability to be accurate faster out to 100+ yards. I feel that when trying to make a quick accurate shot that ring would piss me off. Plus I just don't think I'd like having that much crap in my FOV. I know they aren't made for making a ragged hole at 300 yards, I'm just referring to man sized targets from any distance beyond 100 yards.

All I've ever found used are the 65moa models. TSE lists the .D1 model, so I could pay 100 more then the average used price and get a new unit with just the dot if I want to. Plus then I could put it on my EI card... er, uh.. I mean credit card.

So what do the people with first hand experience here have to say? Am I just being silly?
 
I've had both. I think I preferred the single dot, to be honest, but then it's really just an aimpoint! :)

Single dot, as you have found, are rare as hens teeth around here. Good luck!
 
Haha ya I hear ya, I'd grab an Aimpoint but the reason I like the Eotech is because it's not a tube!. I think it would be much faster to look through a "window" rather then the tube, ya know?

I wish I knew someone near Nanaimo that had an Eotech! :(
 
I have the standard ring and dot. Once you concentrate on the dot the ring doesn't matter as your focused on the dot. So get it and don't look back. There is no magnification so 100yds is far away for that little dot.
 
I like the 65 minute ring around the (1/3rd of a) minute dot. That dot is pretty damn small.
 
I like the ring on mine as well. It's great for shooting metal at closer ranges, especially with a .22 upper on it. When shooting for more precision I don't even notice the outer ring, only the dot.
