Hey guys, I bought an Bushnell holosight xlp from a local store (used). I bought it for use on my shotgun. I mounted it and originally really liked it. I had it out last weekend and I noticed a dark spot (slightly larger than the reticle) when looking through the glass in the middle. I thought it was a smudge originally, however on closer inspection it seems physically be in the reticle itself. I took some pics to try to illustrate what I mean:

These were all taken on the same setting, by slightly changing the angle on the camera. As you can see the reticle really dims out and sort of distorts with the dark spot.

Where the dark spot is, seems to correspond with where the reticle is projected (I don't know the technical terminology so bear with me). Is this normal?

And on a higher brightness setting:

So anyway, is this normal? It seems quite distracting. Or am I just being picky? They said it will carry a 1 year warranty at through the store, so I'm wondering if I should be exchanging this for something else?

It's an xlp, which I think is the last generation Bushnell produced. I've only had it for a week, and I can't imagine it will get any better on my shotgun. Even if people can give me a picture on a comparative sight (like the last two pics) that would be great. I can't imagine the blacked out portion is normal. Just don't want to look like a douche when I go back into the store and try to exchange it lol.

Crack in the reflective lens. Hence why Bushnell recalled them. Also be carefull in using this optic on anything over a 2 & 3/4 normal round. I was turkey hunting and used a 3 inch magnum and those two batteries exploded right out and slapped me right in the face. All Bushnell did was to tell me that that model was recalled and to pay for the shipping both ways and they will give me a new model. Ever since then I hold Bushnell in the same breath as NcStar and Tasco.

Perfect, thank you sir. That's exactly what I was looking for. I really just didn't want to look like a ####, because they will probably try to tell me it's normal.

I was only going to use this with full power 2-3/4" buck and slugs, so I really don't trust it.

This is the only Bushnell holo sight that has served me well. Weather on my DE 50 AE or taking 3 & 1/2 inch magnum 00 buck.

Sorry can't find any images of that model with the holosight in tacked. But it is suppossed to be a circle with a dot in the middle just like an EoTech.
