Hey there,

Looking for some optics suggestions for my STAG AR15. I would like to go with an EOTech or ACOG. Don't really have many options in NB when it comes to frequenting a gun store (I know; the irony)

Any suggestions for....
a) optics for my AR
b) where can I shop online (Canadian site) that sells & ships optics

Thanks!
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend,
AR Canuck

Many of the sponsors have EOTech. Such as Questar, TSE, Wolverine to name a few
For ACOG, Wolverine for sure, and others too.
The EE is also always a good bet, sometimes some very good deal but be aware of rip off

Just click on all the banners above to start

Thanks mate!! Any suggestions?? I would like a simple optic that doesn't require batteries to operate. (so it won't go down anytime)

You need to answer a couple of questions before you an go hunting for an optic.

1. What type of shooting? Bench work, action sports, plinking, service rifle, or all around?

2. Do you intend to get into competitions?

ETA: If you're looking for non battery optics then Trijicon is your only option.

EOTech requires battery, but the new XPS series last up to 600hrs...
Not that issues with ACOG
ACOG is the best military optic with magnification out there
For the EOtech, it's either Eotech or Aimpoints for red dots, both are great

This would just be intended for target and work related competitions during annual recert. (tired of irons, time to upgrade)

Im thinking the EOTech XPS(2-2)...I have been reading up on it for the last hour or so. Looks very promising! even with the battery, 600 hours is tolerable

thanks for the help guys

Just be aware of the limitations of red dot and holo sights. They allow faster target acquisition, but aren't very effective beyond 200-300 yards (depending on dot size). If you're looking to do competition shooting, get a magnified optic of some sort with a ballistic reticule (Elcan Specter DR or OS4, ACOG, 1.1-4x scope of your choice, etc).

For CQB and similar I have been using a Trijicon TA33R-H on my Stag 14.5".

It is nice and light, requires no batteries and has worked fine wet, cold, hot, dry, slow, fast, falling down, standing up, ...

The TA33 is 3x30 fixed power so likely not the best for long range or dim light, but for daylight short to medium range it works well.

I got mine from Dave's Surplus and Tactical; I don't see it on their site now but check with them, and be sure to request the CGN discount.

I have an Eotech on order through plain sights (dealer here). I chose the EXPS2. Great price and great communication on their part.

Good luck, Eotech, Lucid or Trijicon are all stellar options, and the dealers her are all good.

looks interesting....how is the reputation? I never really heard much of Lucid

The price is much easier on the eyes haha

I can't really vouch for the reputation yet as I haven't had mine for too long. I like the fact that you can change the reticle (and one is like the Eotech). I also have the 2x adapter for it so it can run with or without magnification. It does have a limited lifetime warranty also. On the other side of the coin I can completely vouch for ACOG's or Aimpoints. Having owned them (still do) they are simply fantastic (but alot of scratch). If money wasn't an object I'd always go for the ACOG first. The Lucid I put on the Norc AR that my kids use (so it's handling their abuse fine so far).
