EOTech or Aimpoint?

Which forward mounted optic would you choose?

I just got my first look through an EOTech on an M4 and an MP5 the other day and was quite impressed. Haven't had a chance to shoot either yet, but that will come soon enough. I'm thinking about a forward mounted optic on my M14S and can't decide which I'll like better. Then I thought, what a perfect idea for a poll. So there it is. I haven't looked through an Aimpoint to date so I thought I'd enlist the CGN legions and see what you all thought.

Apples or oranges?

EOTech is less preferable for persons with astigmatism. Other than that, personal preference on reticle choice. I think the EOTech is faster at short range because of the 65 ring, but is quick to transition with the 1 MOA dot.

Others prefer the 2 MOA Aimpoint. I have only played with an Aimpoint, so no range feedback from me. I'm still happy with my EOTech 1000+ rounds after purchase.

EO-TECH has been on my ar for a couple of years and I am 100 percent satisfied with its performance. After all , the military uses it and they esu the best, no? Is aimpoint holographic?

aimpoint in the model M68 was on american service rifles YEARS befre the eotech and is the single largest item in US Military supply chains for reddot sites.

the eotech on the other hand is just making its way into the Spec-Op community.... the aimpoint is on most regular forces rifles an outnumber the eotech at least 1000:1

so if you want to make your decision based on wha the US military uses then aimpoint is the way to go ;)

B U M I have both they are geat sights try the EoTech or the Aimpoint out before you buy . Wes mentioned earlier that reticle was fuzzy not everone's eye can can focus on the EoTech reticle.

I went through this same dilema when deciding what to put on my M14S. I had used the EOTech at work and really liked it, but it just sits way to high for an M14 so I went with the Aimpoint and could not be happier. Works great and mounts nice and low on the scout mount.

I have both (just got the Aimpoint ). I find the eotech is quicker to use but somehow the 2 moa dot on the aimpoint seems crisper. ( I have a fair bit of astigmatism). The eotech dot-circle seems brighter at max setting.

on a rifle with more recoil (say 7:62 x51 & above) i'll be using the aimpoint mainly because i can cheek the rifle more comfortably. On lighter recoiling rifles (CX4 storm, AR!5) i think its a tossup-depends on your preference.

Try this:

Throw one of each as hard as you can across a paved parking lot.

Now attach the scratched but still working aimpoint to your rifle and toss the pieces of eotech in the garbage can (try to find all the pieces - littering is bad).

ps. as a further clue, which sight had an aftermarket 'quick release battery latch' designed for it.

You could always pick up one of the aimpoint replicas to see if you like the overall size/position of them. It wouldn't be hard to get most of your investment back on the exchange forums once you decide. The clone actually has quite a well defined dot which impressed me compared to other red dots I've tried, but I haven't had the opportunity to try the real thing.

I really enjoyed the Eotech I picked up for my m14s, but I never ended up getting around to trying it on the 14, just on my shottie. Nice small package, very reliable...

The size of the dot in the reticle is something you may want to take into consideration, I sort of think greater precision might be possible from the one moa dot available on the eotech, but that's just a theory.

Like the EOTech and run one on my short gun, but turn the 2 MOA Aimpoint dot down and it gets real sweet for small dot precision if thats what you're after.
