EOTech Question

I bought an Eotech. Now I would like to know how I line it up. Do I line the centre dot on top of the front sight or ignore the front sight altogether and simply put the dot on the target?
If it's the latter I find the front sight a bit of a distraction.

Simply put the dot on target. The point is that you don't have to align anything with your eye... you simply put the dot on the target and shoot.

The front post at the 1 moa dot CAN co-witness, but doesn't have to.

Wherever the dot is the one the tube, pull the trigger and the bullet will go there. There is no parallax. If the dot is on it, it's aiming at it.

If the front sight is a distraction, get a riser block or get a flip up front sight.

If you have a consistant cheek weld with your stock, the dot should sit on the top of your front sight post (if they are co-witnessed).

We found zeroing your irons then placing the dot on top of the front sight post worked well. After that you just confirm the dot zero. Very easy and quick to do.

If you do want to "co-witness", here's what your sight picture should look like if you want the EOTech's dot to rest on top of the front sight post:-(although it won't matter WHERE your EOTech's dot is in the lens as long as it's on target)

The only real advantage of "co-witnessing" is that you use the same cheek-weld and sight picture if your EOTech shuts off.

yeah I followed this advice with my aimpoint..made life much easier. Plus I find cowitnessing makes it faster and easier to line up on the target.

Depends, if your rifle already has a mechanical zero, just place the 1 MOA dot on the front sight post.

Do you need a riser to co-witness an Eotech on a flat top? Or does that just get the front sight post out of the way more?

The 511/512/551/552 models all generally co-witness when mounted directly to a flat top upper receiver. The 553 and 557 sit about 1/4" higher so the irons end up being in the bottom third of the window.
