EOTech with AR front sight

I recently became the proud owner of a Stag Arms Model 4 20" and have now installed an EOTech M512 sight on it. This is my first "black rifle" so I'm still somewhere in the middle of the learning curve, and right at the beginning of accessorizing the heck out of it.

Question is: It seems like it will get annoying having the front sight of my rifle in the sight picture with the EOTech reticule. Will I get used to this or is there something else that I should be doing when using an EOTech on an AR with a fixed front sight?

the most obvious remedy is to accessorize your Stag with a flip down
 
the gas tub is pinned into the sight.
the sight will be clamped on the barrel
removal of sight will require removal of both gas tube, and muzzle flash guard/compensator

if you buy a low profile front sight like a magpul mbus, it will be rail mounted, so a gas block will be required, otherwise, the gas block will be integral with the flip down sight.

there is a hole in the barrel which leads into the sight or gas block which leads into the gas tube
 
I'm running an EOTech XPS 3-2 on a rifle which sees daily use for work purposes. The front sight being in the sight picture has never bothered me, but it does bother some people.

As previously mentioned, get rid of your front sight.

The Larue LT-110 (I believe) will raise it a bit higher as well - but your front sight will still be somewhat visible.

Before making a firm decision, pour a bunch of rounds through it and see how you feel about it afterwards. Even with the magnifier behind my sight, the front sight is still largely irrelevant for me.
 
Alright, thanks guys. Plan is to get to the range this weekend so I'll wait until I actually get it sighted in before I decide anything.

I completely disagree, though, yes its probably the most obvious.


My suggestions/your options (Least expensive/difficult to most):
  • Get used to it... For the longest time I was a lower 1/3 cowitness guy... Well, a couple of months ago I held off on buying what i needed to get that cowitness on a new rifle and got so used to the standard cowitness (how yours is likely to be now) that I feel in love with it and have since converted my other rifles over... For the longest time I thought I hated the standard cowitness, but the truth is I never gave it a real chance.
  • Put a riser under the EOTech to obtain a lower 1/3 cowitness. That way, your irons will be visible through the lower 1/3 of the optic.
  • Do what has already been suggested with the FSP...
 
Try it first. I've shot with my eotech co-witnessing my FSP for a long time now. Don't mind it at all. Sure it would be nicer with a flip down in the front and more tacticool.....
 
Its called cowitnessing. Its what the EOtech was made to do. Its so if your optic dies while your in combat then you can still the iron sights.
It should also be noted that if you do that "point shooting" or whatever its called. You don't really need a rear sight.
 
If the front sight bothers you, a riser is a good option as "NorCalDustin" pointed out and it will raise the optic higher to your eye keeping the gun at a proper shoulder level rather than having to scrunch you head lower.
 
having the fixed front site there, is added insurance if the eotech goes N/S. The eotech can be used as a ghost ring and front site for cowitness

Fixed it for you...

You can scribe a line with a paint marker on the front sight as line up the EO -- its not as intuitive as an Aimpoint for that, but can still work.

FYI IMHO running a CCO on a 20" gun is a collosal waste.
