Eotech's a little dim?

Hey, has anyone had this problem with their Eotechs? I have a 552 with the 1moa dot and 65moa ring. I've noticed it's hard to place the dot on target during bright sunny days compared to my dad's aimpoint (though it is sporting a 4moa dot). I thought it was the batteries so I switched in a pair of brand new ones but no improvement. Even on the highest brightness setting.

you can buy a flip-up shroud that shades the front of the reticule sight in bright light, it also folds down to protect the glass when not in use, I got an after-market one from Cheaper than Dirt, but I believe Eotech make one also (but is expensive)
