Hi all,

I just picked up an ERA P-14 that has some stamps on the stock that I haven't been able to find any reference of.

The rifle in question

The first stamp on the stock appears to be a P T over a C in a roundel. I've played with the colours to make it show up better in the picture.

And the second one appears to be the number 259 over a squared off cross.

If anyone has any idea what these markings mean it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the 259 is a Unit Marking. After the brass disc was removed sometimes the stock would be punched with a unit marking so it can be tracked within the Unit's supply. I have seen the PT before, I believe that it is an inspector's stamp. This leads me to believe that it went through an arsenal or field inspection at some point early on in it's life. Prior to the Second World War, P-14's went through the Weedon Inspection where this could have happened. Ten two wooden dowels in the wood plug where the brass disc leads me to believe that it was inspected then. All in all, a fine example of a P-14.
