Also on my latest trip, I went to the Naval museum in Esquimalt, BC. That's Victoria to you fellas out east.

It's on Naden, aka CFB Esquimalt, "Home of Canada's Pacific Fleet".

To be honest, I was hoping for more. It billed itself as being a naval and military museum, and it was. Having lived in "Work Point Barracks" as a kid and loving the area and the being around the PPCLI battalion, I was hoping to see more of that influence in the museum. However, there was basically none of it. Nor was there as much history of the base as I was hoping.

The few artifacts that they did have on display took me a bit over an hour, I am sure a navy type, would take a little longer.

Maybe with a few more Nutz attending and contributing, they can add a bit more "stuff".

Here's a shot of me with my partner standing outside the front doors.

Have you tried the museums at the Vanalman armoury or the Bay Street Armoury?

Vanalman has lots of firearms and military vehicles.

C Scot Museum at Bay Street Armoury has a good collection of weapons including an extensive Lee Enfield collection with some rare stuff.

Artillery museum at Bay Street Armoury is lacking in weapons but worth a visit.

Nope, didn't know either existed. I've driven by the Bay st. Armoury hundreds of times, but didn't know there was a museum.

It's too bad they don't advertise or let themselves be known. I would have gone as I am sure more people would too.

Esquimalt = Boat People. Ahar! Other than the Cdn. War museum in Ottawa, the best CF museum is in CFB Borden. Quite literally tanks and trucks and armoured cars, plus aircraft, artillery and small arms. Including the German 'shoot around corners' rifle.

The old Maritime Museum on CFB Stadacona isn't too bad, probably take an hour or so to visit as well, unless you like model ships :)

The Citadel Hill museum in Halifax is worth a visit if you're down this way, some nice hardware in there, including one of the big WWI German AT rifles...recovered/donated from a local legion. They were wondering where they'd find a round for it to demo the size/shape, then they noted that the bolt was siezed shut....they eventually worked the bolt open and oops! Out popped a live round  It'd sat in a legion for 80 years with a live round up the spout!
