Essex county Home Guard Ross M-10

Just wanting to share my most recent purchase.

Here we have a full unmolested Ross M1910 issued/purchase by the Essex county home guard. Rifle has excellent bore, most of the case hardened finish still present, and excellent wood. I will try it out today at the range to see how it performs.

Never had much interest in Ross rifles, given I’ve only ever seen spotters, but had the chance to buy this rifle yesterday so I figured I’d give a Ross a try.

It looks really good. Interesting that the Essex Home Guard used the commercial, rather than military version, of that rifle.

Very nice, I have a home guard as well. Not as nice of shape as yours. My stock stamps are worn and hard to read. Bore isn't the best on mine but still a very good shooter. One of my favorite rifles to shoot.

All the HGs went down the commercial line. Thus the finish and serials.

Tried it out at 100 yards today. Only 10 rounds of my plinking 303 reloads. I’m happy with results, had some wind and blowing snow today.

That's as nice a Ross as I've seen, beautiful gun.

Well I’m saddened to say an accident happened with it on the trip home from the range. Unpacking the rifle I found that the trigger guard sling swivel broke sometime from leaving the range to going home. It’s the one in the middle that I’m not sure what it’s for. Seems like it’s pot metal by looking at the break. Has me shook on having such a rifle in my collection, I’m a shooter and if I feel like I can’t take a rifle out I don’t see me holding on to it.
