i was taking apart my LS arms 1911 commander and i found that the frame is actually made by Essex. is this a good or bad thing? i suspect the slide is also Essex because of the #40 casting mark.
i have read a bit online but does any won have anymore info about this kind of frame?
i am still trying to find out info about the gun smith who assembled it.

Not expensive investment cast frames, sold for $100-$150 in the US depending on the decade. Alright for a shooter.

Some holes might not be exactly where they are supposed to be and some parts might have been fitted accordingly. This is not a big deal until you have to replace or tune them :).
I would be more wary about long term with the slide and buy a backup at some point.
Note that your gun was built on a Government frame and doesn't have a standard Commander slide; which is pretty cool as you can use standard GVT parts or even a long slide with it.
