Ever go into a bear cave ?

Nothing about it is written in the Alberta Regs. Can't shoot sows with a cub, can't hunt at night, can't use a light, can't shoot a bear under 1 year of age (ask for ID first).

You won't win any ethical debate shooting a sleeping bear, but I can't find anything that would suggest it is illegal here. I would rather wait for one to wake up and take that first big crap before I have to gut them.

Any luck today? What zone are you hunting for bears in? I was in WMU 305 and there's still lots of snow. Saw lots of deer but no bears :(

We were planning on going Saturday but the two guys I was going with were called in to work. As such, I kept working on the house renos :( Next weekend I hope

1. What caliber and length of barrel is best designed for Alberta Bear Den molestation/hunting? I am imagining for close range I should use a winchester defender w/ slugs.
2. If the bear is still asleep could I just shiv it with a knife and save some lead? Would this be more ethical than shooting it? Is it ethical to shoot a sleeping duck?
3. Where do I look for dens, and how do I best wake it up? My ideas would include, my gf's really annoying alarm clock on the buzzer setting w/ a really long extension cord, putting her precious little poodle in the hole to try to scare the bear out. Or should I try suckling milk from its nipples and then maybe nip the teat with my teeth?
4. Should I pepper spray the bear to disorient it and then when it stumbles out, regardless of if its a baby or a sow with cubs, so long as I am standing in front of the den I could legally say it charged me. Then I shoot it and smile triumphant over my magical hunting experience.
