They could have just been a retailer and the gun was made by someone else with their name stamped on it. Very common back in the day. Any pics by chance? You could also post this on doublegunshop forum under the BBS section. Lots of SxS enthusiasts from the UK on there who might have info.
If the gun is from any European country there will be proof marks on the barrel flats which will identify country of origin amongst other things.
