Ever see one of these remingtons

The 40-xb repeater was introduced in the mid 70's but manufactured in very very low qty and command a hefty premium over the single shot model. The one showed in the video is the F Grade stock with factory engravings, these were made from '77 till '79 and the last one I heard about sold for over $12,000 USD in 2010. It's probably the one showed in the video...

Here's the info I have on these rare gems:

"The actual stock process took about 2.5 to 3 months to complete (very, very labor intensive). Both the CS Mgr. and Stock 'smith would get in a couple of pallets of 'blanks' (50 blanks to a pallet) from a supplier and then they would hand grade each black for Grade 'C', then Grade 'D' and finally the few that made Grade 'F' wood figure. About 20 - 30% of the stock blanks that didn't make one of the critical grades were then shuffled off to other departments that used them in other models.

How they carefully graded each black and they had a simple metric of ~ 25% wood figure for Grade 'C', ~ 50% wood figure for Grade 'D' and finally the few that made ~ 75% or more wood figure for Grade F. Also, balance of figure between both sides (LH and RH) is critical. F Grade stands out with the 'balance' of wood figure being superb on the LH and RH sides.

In the last year of official production (1979) many 40XB Sporter/Repeaters seemed to have been produced with Grade 'D' and 'F' wood stocks . Seems they were trying to bring a closure to the sporter, and the Rem. CS placed the best wood they had on hand on them then production stopped for the repeater and it became a part of history."

Somewhat similar to the 541 S

Yea, sort of, but the 541S is only an 800$ (or less) gun. Love mine but it makes me mad that Rem put a pos mag in such a great gun. I would like any of the 40x, single ir repeater!

I have had a burning desire to own a 40-X Sporter repeater in any grade for years, but they
just demand such high prices that I could never quite jump on one when it became available.

I do own a 40-X Single shot HB rifle on the 700 type action. It is very, very accurate....so
much so I could not justify keeping my 54 Annie. [I also have a race-prepped Suhl 150 that
shoots lights out] Add my 37 Remington and a very accurate Mossberg 144 LSB, and I am good for now.
As far as repeaters go, the Mossberg and a 541T will be keepers. Eagleye.

I have a 40 XB single shot and two 541T HB's......there is zero comparison between the two.

I agree with the previous statements, a j, Eagleye and Steve. The 541 even in the sporter trim has nothing to do with the 40-X line of rifles.

I have the pleasure to own both. My 541S is one of the very rare factory open sights option version and my 40-X (722) is one of the first few rifles Remington made in June, 1955 as a replacement to the model 37.

Both are very special and a joy to shoot but they are very different rifles from each other and were meant for different purpose as clearly represented on the pictures bellow.

I'm fortunate to own a 40x repeater and it's a beautiful rifle. The wood and bluing are simply amazing and pictures just don't do it justice. I've owned 2 of the repeaters at one point but sold one many years ago. This one in the picture has never been fired other than the factory testing.
