Hey guys-not a wonky idea for some I bet, but I've been exploring the idea of getting a Tikka/hunter (not varmint) in 222, and that caliber is well-represented on the Tikka site. When I couldn't find any new Tikka 222 in Canada, I reached out to Stoeger only to learn they don't ship anything 222 to Canada but they can be ordered through a dealer. Wait time=1 year +

I get supply chains can move @ a snail's pace, and it is a gun coming into Canada from the other side of the ocean...but a year+ suggests the gun doesn't exist yet/made when the demand is there? I forwarded that specific question/waiting on a reply.

More of a curiosity-won't impact the decision.

I want to try 222/don't love allot of older stuff I see on the used market. Just wondering if any of you have ordered a non-stock Tikka through a dealer/Stoeger, how did it go/actual lead time? Price in line with what you're seeing in Canada for Tikka?

thanks!

Thanks guys. No shortage of varmint rifles in the quiver, and have had a few .223s come/go. Last was a CTR I just LOVED but that twist rate behaved like a 1:9 when my old Savage .223/1:9 shot 53gr. amazingly well. 204 was my answer to really light/fast, looking to push the light .22s if I'm dumb enough to buy yet another bolt-action varmint rifle. lol

As a result, I'd probably wait for a factory Tikka over paying extra for a barrel+fitting, but more for the end result than price concern. I'll look at both.

On a related note, did the CZ527 come in an American or Varmint model?

Buy a Tikka 223 action and rebarrel it. I did that and bought a blank from IBI and Paul at PR Precision reamed it and installed on the Tikka action. Much faster and Paul has the reamer.
Beautiful looking rifle!.....:)

When my wife saw the grouping on that target, she said, I hope that was 200-300 yards.....:) LOL

Seriously though, that's not a great 5 round group at 100 yards.....:(

A custom rifle should be able to shoot five rounds into the same hole. 1/4"-3/8" at least. What happened?

In the 3.75 years I ran my gun shop, I sold approximately 50-60 Tikka rifles. A small amount compared to 500 Savage rifles per fiscal year.

We bought from Stoeger Canada, some firearms took 1-2 years to arrive, and this was regular factory made rifles. A custom order was over two years. Stoeger/Tikka was always slow on delivery of rifles, it really did not matter what we ordered. And then there was the excuse, well they are advertised on the Tikka website but not available in Canada.

The last year I ran the Pro Shop, I quit ordering any Tikka brand rifles. Way too much hassle and wait times. Stoeger Canada never seemed to have a valid answer for these ridiculous wait times.......:(

If I had not retired for medical reasons, I would have not kept many Tikka guns in stock. Just a few Veil Wideland and Veil Alpine models.

that was 100 yards but those were the first shots breaking it in and sighting the rifle. Was playing with the ammo a bit. The barrel is a 1:12" not the stock 1:14" so was playing around to see what stock ammo worked best. And likely me on the new rifle also.

How do you like it? You load for it, or factory ammo? I've been lucky with Tikka's liking decent factory ammo.

Any hunting with it?
It is a 7mm-08, I really liked it, heavy but that's a Varmint rifle. It's was sub MOA with hand loads, Barnes TTSX, I never really used factory ammo. You can seat Tikka's quite long, longer than the magazine in this case so I just got a long action mag and changed the bolt stop. I did hunt with it but have since traded it.

I have a T3 hunter .222 I am going to sell, but have been waiting for Can. Post to get back to normal.

A very honest response, thanks for that.

I bet you will be shooting small clover leaves very soon.

Welcome to the triple deuce club!......:)

When the 204 Ruger was first introduced, I ordered a Tikka Stainless Laminate from Prairie Gun Traders. Took 8-9 months to get here if I remember correctly. It was one of the first brought into Canada. Still remember picking up the rifle in the Superstore parking lot in Moose Jaw. Used it for a couple years and it was a very accurate but didn't really fit me. Sold it to a guy who just had to have it and went to the Sako varmint laminate. Still have the Sako and it has shot 100s of coyotes over the years.
