Exact or proven process in Sighting in Red Dot on a shotty please

This is one avenue I do not hold experience in. I have read about peoples comments on Sparcs, T1, H1 and Fastfires,on shotties..all very interesting.

I have a Benelli 14" Super Nova in which I was considering a red dot optic for. My question is this.

In sighting in a red dot "best you can, what load and at what yardage are people doing it at?

I am "guessing" 20-25 yards and that people are using a lighter load slug or something, but yes I am guessing so would like to hear from those that have found best way and results, thanks!


I have a few T1s on my ARs' which I really like, so likely a H1 or T1 for sure...

that depends on which range you will be doing your shooting at. Different loads will all need readjustment afterwards as well. slugs and buckshot will have different POI from each other, the velocity of the load will change vertical POI etc. First, try all the different slugs you can find to figure out what shoots best in your gun, then sight in for the range you prefer to shoot them at. This may change over time as you find what works best for you.

Ok thanks for some feedback, and I'll for sure be testing various ammo loads. As per the distance, what distance typically are the shotgun parts of 3gun comps done at, 5-30 yards I suspect or does anyone know? Just trying to get an idea at the ranges/distance in which I should be consistent at and also obviously for sighting in purposes. Thx...

I just sighted in my 870 Wingmaster with an H1 a few weeks ago. I did it at 25 yards using a variety of slugs (Federal powershok and Remington Slugger). In the end, I was getting about a 2 inch group with 5 shots, which I was pleased with considering it has a 12.5 inch barrel. BTW, I would use the same loads that you normally would shoot from the shotgun, ie. if you plan on using full power loads, then sight it in with full power loads.
