I wonder if you can buy the knockoff, then report the fraud to (FRAUD ALERT), and get your money back. That would be the circle-of-life way to stop people from selling fakes.

The only problems being that you'd be stuck with a replica that could lose seal with the mighty recoil of the .22 - the only rifle that you dare mount it to.

Good to have warnings, thanks!

a few years ago , I bought one of these cheap from another dealer that took a rifle in trade with a fake on it, and did not want it in the store, I sold it as fake at one of the shows and fellow wanted it for a custom 22 swift ( I think it was ) he told me the other day , still good after 6-7 yrs, but we are talking under 100.oo scope

Most fakes coming out of China come from the same production line as the real McCoy. Usually what happens is there is slack time in the production run, so they make multiple copies of that last product through while waiting and then divert them to a wholesale middleman instead of the customer. Thus the same serial number.

Genuine Leupolds are made in China?

Genuine Leupolds are made in China?

Exactly:

"Leupold riflescopes are all designed, machined, and assembled in our Beaverton Oregon manufacturing facility. We do not have any other riflescope manufacturing facilities or offices anywhere in the world. So if you come across a Leupold riflescope being shipped into the United States from China, it is a very likely a counterfeit."

So how would they have gotten to China/HK?

The fake in pics on previous post has a assembled in USA on it !
That's it for me - only older leupolds if I buy used or online . I know the old leupolds are good Or at least better than most

This is not a case of factories with "down time" but a case of factories set up to produce "counterfeits". And it's not just scopes. Cold Steel knives are also popular. Buying online has become a lot more dicey in the last few tears. If I'm looking at any of the higher end optics, or knives, I ask for a serial number and verify, if not getting from a reputable vendor.

Picked up a Cold Steel Master Tanto at an auction a couple years ago. "Made in the USA" and everything. It wasn't until I got t home that I found the small inconsistencies that showed it was a fake. Fortunately I didn't pay full Cold Steel price, but I overpaid for a fake. Also had the alarm bells go off at another auction when there were three economy rifle with "Zeiss" optics on them. Did a little quick google-fu and found out Zeiss never offered that model with illuminated optics. But the fakes are getting harder and harder to detect.

This is a common lie that counterfeiters use to make you think their product is the same as the real mccoy.
