Excess Tung Oil

Hi fella's I got carless and now I have a build up of tung oil in the bolt groove and inside where the floor plate and receiver go. Does anyone know of a good way to get the excess finish off without sanding? I do not want to screw up the bedding.

Try an Exacto knife or a wood scraper, just go gently.

You could try some brake cleaner or other good solvent. Look for one that says it will damage wood finishes.

On the stock? Scrape it or try a marine varnish remover. This is why tung oil gets applied in light coats with a clean lint free rag.

If it's still tacky a rag with some mineral spirits will do nicely. If it's fairly hard but still quite fresh try some lacquer thinner on a rag with brisk rubbing. That'll almost certainly remove it without affecting the bedding resin. Just don't make the rag dripping wet so it runs all over the place.

I misread the post, was thinking the tung oil was on metal. What BCRider or Arctic said should work.
