Are there manufactures of tracer and armor piercing ammo that can be brought on the internet with reasonable prices in Canada? The thread about green tipped 7.62 ammo got me thinking that tracer and AP rounds are rare, at least in 7.62 * 39...

enhanced expansion, is that like hollow point for hunting? also what is tatical? (the for glass one???)

and TBH i was mainly thinking tracer for there glowness, AP is ok to have only like 60 rounds of it, because the chance of me needing AP in my lifetime is small, if not non-existent, but tracer on the other hand...

also, are AP rounds just FMJ with steel core? or something? lecture me please!

for while:rolleyes:

I thought tracers were a no-no..You can buy them bulk for reloading stateside....the border guys told me no incendiary rounds...I thought these were concidered incendiary..

Ammunition
A list of cartridges were declared to be prohibited weapons. The list
includes armour-piercing bullets, explosive and incendiary cartridges,
and exotic shotgun cartridges known as "flechettes" (small pins or
needles).

it say nothing about them being for rifle or handgun just that armour-piercing bullets were declared to be prohibited ?

JB, from the:

Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and other Weapons, Components and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited or Restricted

PART 5
PROHIBITED AMMUNITION

Former Prohibited Weapons Order, No. 10

1. Any cartridge that is capable of being discharged from a commonly available semi-automatic handgun or revolver and that is manufactured or assembled with a projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered so as to be capable of penetrating body armour, including KTW, THV and 5.7 x 28 mm P-90 cartridges.

2. Any projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered to ignite on impact, where the projectile is designed for use in or in conjunction with a cartridge and does not exceed 15 mm in diameter.

3. Any projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered so as to explode on impact, where the projectile is designed for use in or in conjunction with a cartridge and does not exceed 15 mm in diameter.

4. Any cartridge that is capable of being discharged from a shotgun and that contains projectiles known as “fléchettes” or any similar projectiles.

For AP ammo to be prohibited it must be capable of being discharged from a commonly available handgun and designed, manufactured or altered to penetrate body armour.

A sticky with this info has been created, see top of Ammo index page.

I don't think you'll find too much manufactured tracer ammo in Canada - it'd all be surplus, and all .223 surplus is hard to come by these days.

You can legally use tracers, but be very smart about where - the fire hazard is quite high if there is dry grass around your targets.

If there's any tracer manufactured in Canada it would be by General Dynamics at the old SNC-Lavalin/IVI plant.

X 2 to the careful use of tracer. I started a fire at the 500m backstop once with 8x57 tracer.:D

JB, and Overthetop,
You two should read my Newbie FAQ section piece I wrote just for you guys. The link is below, in my sigline.

FWIW, I tried some 223 tracer, and thought it was not worth the effort. It has such a small pellet of trace material that it burns out right away.
8x57 Mauser, on the other hand, burns a good long time.
As Stevo found out!
