Hey there lads (and ladies)

Does anyone know where to buy the Ddupleks expanding shotgun ammo in Canada, or whether it is available at all here?

I have a friend with a bit if a problem - he has an extremely dead tree that needs to come down - it threatens the road into his property - it is too rotten to attempt to fell through normal techniques - a real widowmaker - and no one wants to even approach it. If we had a blasters license we could wrap six feet of det cord around it and bring it down, but that's not a current option. It's been suggested we blast the lower trunk to bits with my 12 bore zombie gun.

It occurs to me these Ddupleks rounds would be ideal. Failing that, a box of buckshot might do the trick.

Anybody have any experience with this sort of thing?

Cheers

On a larger tree, any slug will do ... #4 shot works great on spruce trees ... it's our traditional method of harvesting the xmas tree :)

If it is too rotten to cut by hand, then there is another method ....

2 Quads (or Trucks), 2 100' lengths of rope, 40 foot length of chain. Tie ropes to both ends of chain, tie ropes to 4 Wheelers, start "sawing" from a safe distance, each guy pulling the other back towards the tree on his "cut" stroke to maintain good pressure and tension on the chain.

We have actually done this with Trucks to clear a deadfall from a trail after the chain on the chainsaw broke and "back where we came from" wasn't an option.

How big around is this tree? An sks with a crate of ammo works to. I've use a 308 with fmj to break cement and slugs for tree work. I trim the higher branchs with my 2506 and 75gr vmax bullets.
Another option is to pull with a truck and long ropes one direction and push with a bulldozer. They are rentable

In my neck of the woods, we call it "Sooke Logging" and I've been doin' it
for years. It's gratifying to take down a tree or limb at 50-200 yds. with
handloads and cast bullets. Factory ammo is too expensive to waste on
wood, except .22 rimfires. Always mind your backdrop and don't shoot limbs or trees
that don't have a healthy rise of land behind them.
Have fun with 'er. ;)

This warms the cockles of my heart. Hot chocolate, comfy sweaters, warm mittens, the smell of pine, shogun shells and cordite !

Gotta love traditions !
