Expected lifetime of an AR15 Lower

Never known a lower to break....I've got 25K+ through my issued C-7A1 lower....replaced the gas tube at 8K, barrel at 15K, and that's about it...I'm probably getting on towards being due for another new gas tube though...

About the only issue you'd ever have is the holes (trigger group, capture pins) elongating. Even that is very unlikely unless you fire a metric butt load of ammo each year.

I don't think I've ever fired a metric buttload - how many is that? I'm guessing it's more than an imperial buttload

Or can it even be done?

If you have 5/10 round mags and need a permit to transport and shoot your rifle/lower, it will likely not need replacement in your or your offsprings lifetime of intense use.

IMO.

Assuming it was made right in the first place, and most these days probably are.

There are some old M16 and now but still less so, C7s, lower receivers in service, with many many thousands of rounds through them, and many many hamfisted (and highly skilled!) operators along the years, still serviceable.

I know they are gone through for small parts, and inspected and refinished as required, but I don't know what effort goes into tightening them up or, tossing them as 'worn out'. I guarantee someone here does though.

I say no.

I'll defer to the wpns techs. :ninja:

i only know of two places in the states that will repair registered M16 lowers. judging by that i am assuming that the is not that much of a call to even need repairs done.

mr grandfather had a class 3 (USA) H&R ( i believe it was not colt) contract m16a1 made late 60's it had little to no finnish left fired FA all the time and had NO wear to the pin holes

I have one worn out H&R m16a1 lower here. Holes are elongated. I've also broken the trigger guard attachment point on a Colt lower.

Unless you're running 10s of thousands of rounds thru the weapon it should last forever ( the lower)
