A shotgun once owned by Annie Oakley recently sold at auction for $293,000

A trapdoor Springfield carbine verified to have been carried by a trooper from company K or M at the Little Big Horn went for $126,500

Just as an aside, it appears the most popular rifle in Montreal is the M1 Garand!

Meh... peanuts compared to the value of the almost-mythical .45 Luger :)

As to the Garand and Montreal, John Garand was born in St. Rémi, just south of Montreal. (And since Québec still insists on keeping the Long Gun Registry, it has seemingly never forgiven his parents for their "mistake", even though they moved to the US when he was 10!)

And my Cooey once went for $29.30.

Now that is a good value!

I would never pay north of $5000 for ANY firearm, ever. While it's nice to have gold plating, hand etched scenes of wild boars and does prancing through the woods, and a select piece of patterned walnut, ebony, whatever, it doesn't improve the action of the firearm.

Once you get to a certain point this is very true. It all becomes glamour after that. And a gun owned by a famous person doesn't make it shoot any better either.

I think you might change your mind if you had the funds. Both to own AND feed.

For me, it would be a 50BMG. McMillan! C'mon LOTTO!!!

One problem with guns which are expensive based in part on condition is that I would be very reluctant to shoot them for fear of marring their finish and reducing their value. If it were a modern gun, much less worry because it could always be refinished
