I'm a big fan of lever actions in general and have a bunch. My favorite is Mirouku built Winchesters '86, 92's and 94's and pre '64 Winchester 94's.
What is the build quality like on Chiappa's 92's? Looking at a mare's leg '92, but want to avoid buying a steaming pile of you know what.
Any direct experience with them out there?

I've had 5 or 6 chiappa's.
357, 45-70 in takedown, big loop mares leg, a fixed 357.
Also have a 94ae trapper 357 and just sold my baby, a 16" mirouko case hardened 357 td octagonal.

The chiappa's are a little sharper around the loops and edges than a win. The actions are more refined on the japan made win. The 94ae is good, the chiappas fine but tight when new.
Fit and finish has been good in my experience. I've had chiappas in stainless, case hardened and the painted model.

Wouldn't hesitate buying another chiappa.

I'm not answering the OP's question because I don't have direct experience with Chiappa's, but the one thing that would cause me pause is the general reports of poor experience with parts/warranty work. If the Chiappa's are near 100% parts compatible with other 92s, I wouldn't worry so much if you're OK with buying parts and doing the work yourself.

FYI this is the thread that I was reminded of: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...nty-over-1-year-waiting-for-a-2-part.2404037/

I’ve got a couple 92s with the case hardened finish and they have been good
I think they are better then the Rossi 92s IMO
They also do not have the stupid safety’s that the Rossi and Winchester guns have

I have the 1892 Chiappa Mare's Leg with the octogonal barrel and case hardened finish in 357.

The fit, finish and function are entirely to my satisfaction.

As someone stated, it is not plagued with the Rossi safety, which is definitely a plus for the Chiappa.

I would not hesitate to buy all over if I didn't already have one.

I have a Chiappa mare's leg in .44 magnum, under 200 rounds fired, jams once in a while and shoots high even with the back sight set all the way down. I have a Henry mare's leg in .45 colt, no issues beautiful gun, have also several Henry's in .22 LR love them. Safe queen .44 JM Marlin great gun but no longer available, now made by Ruger. I would say go with Henry mare's leg, can't go wrong.

I have an Alaskan 92 that I quite like. Solid little gun, though not at like a classic Winchester.

I would probably put Chiappa above Rossi because I've read some horror stories about the Rossi. Henry's are decent quality but so fugly I would never buy one. Obviously that is completely subjective.
