Experience with Hi-Point pistols?

I read some reviews from down south about Hi-Point pistols.
The general opinion is that they are ugly as only a mother could love,
but other than that, they are fairly accurate, reliable, and good.
I personally don't find them too ugly and the price is cheap as it gets.

Does anyone have any Hi-Point pistols, and can share their experience?

They work fine. I had one. No problems with it. 40SW . Sold it to a nephew He has been shooting with no problem. I have a 995ts it works great. But it's like any thing else
some folks think if it's not a brand name they are junk. Just like Norinco. If you buy the carbine in 40 it takes th 10 round mags. . If it.s a plinker enjoy. My carbine is great and I also have Norincos. No problems They come with different sights. I have a m77b Norinco and the blow back system are always big heavy guns. Check Hi-Point forum they will give you good feed back. I sold it because I wanted to buy something else.
 
I think they were designed to be thrown away after the drive by shooting, I might be wrong though.
 
Bought a JHP in .45acp. Never had a problem with it. Untill I took it apart to clean it. The manual says DO NOT take it apart. I watched a few youtube videos and it looked easy enough. After I had a :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: of a time putting it back together the trigger wouldnt reset. Sent it in to Ellwood to get fixed and when they called me back I traded it in on a Norinco Commander. So the gun worked fine untill I took it apart. Now ive taken all my other guns apart(were only talking a field strip here!) and I do basic maintenence on cars and bikes. Ive bolted parts on cars and changed the clutch,coils,bodywork on my old 1000. Im no gunsmith but im not mechanically retarded either. I thought a real handgun in a real calibre (.40 or .45) for $250 is the best deal ever. Its not. Buy a Norinco and for under $400 you can get either a CZ,SIG or a 1911. Take your pick.

After reading Dr.Ks post, I did some searching,
and it turns out it is not that easy to field strip them.
As I always take the gun apart before shooting,
that puts the Hi-Point out my shopping list.
 
I had the opportunity to fire one in .40 about a year and a half ago. The guy in the bay next to me offered to let me fire it out of the blue, which I took him up on because I was curious.

Imagine a dollar store cap gun with your favorite toaster oven duct taped onto the top of it and you'll get an idea about how it balances. It's truly obnoxious to shoot. The slide is massive and it recoils with a lurch and a crunch, seems to almost stop mid-motion and then slams forward with crunching enthusiasm.

If I remember correctly, it failed to fire once and failed to go into battery once all in one mag, which the owner blamed on his crappy reloads. That being said, I was able to ring the 75 yard gong several times with it, which I'm afraid, justified the purchase in the owners mind.

He got to shoot my AR in return. He got the better part of that deal...
