Experiences with FN made Model 70s

Heading down to Calgary tomorrow with a few buddies to hit the gun show, Basspro, and maybe Bashaw Sports time permitting. I've got some cash in my pocket to buy a new rifle. I have never had a Model 70, but love the classic beauty and bullet proof actions of the both the Supergrade and stainless FWT, but I am not as strongly convinced about consistent out of the box accuracy and nice trigger feel.

Give me your honest personal experiences with FN made Model 70s as it relates to out of the box accuracy (and anything extra you had to do to achieve it) and trigger feel.

The other options floating around are a stainless Tikka and a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock or some variation of a stainless Rem 700 with a new Timney trigger before a round is ever chambered;)

I'm very happy with mine, I have a Supergrade in 300 win mag. The trigger is very good, easy to adjust. And the accuracy of mine is outstanding. It took very little time to cook up some loads with 200,180,165gr bullets that produced cloverleaf groups at 100yrds. The overall quality of my rifle is awesome if you pick one up I don't think you will regret it.
 
I'm also a big fan. They function reliably and shoot accurately. Fit and finish is perfect. I highly recommend the new Model 70s.
 
I have two of them; one in. 270 Win and one in. 338 Win Mag. I'm going to be placing both of them in Boyd's laminate stocks shortly.
 
I really like mine. Very hard to beat for the price. I have a FW 30-06. Now that I also have two Coopers I'm not thrilled with the trigger on the FN but even still, for the price, hard to beat. I'm going to swap the trigger spring out with one I got from Ernie the Gunsmith and hope that drops it down to 2.5 lb or so.
 
I've had 4; a Supergrade 30-06, a Safari Express in .458, a .270 Featherweight and a .375 Alaskan. I can't fault the execution or function on any of them. As shooters the .458 and .270 are exceptional, the 30-06 got returned and the .375 so far is sort of average. Plenty good enough but nothing to write home about. A little more load work and bedding will likely improve it a bit.
 
I HAD a featherweight in 7-08. Out of the box accuracy was the worst I have even seen. After much fooling with loads I got it so it would hit the target every time. I had it bedded and recrowned, that helped but I do not own it anymore.
 
We have three of the new winchesters my two are a 338 wm m 70 alaskan stainless laminate, my second is a 270 win m70 featherweight blue and walnut And my daughters is a 308 win m70 compact featherweight blue and walnut.
They shoot really good, function is flawless, fit and Finnish is top notch and there pleasing to the eye, they feel good in hand. These rifles are solid well built tools.
You know the old saying "they don't make things like they used too" well that couldn't be further from the truth in regards to these new winchesters. Today's winchester model 70 produced at the new plant are the best made under the winchester name in 50 years. I'm even willing to go as far as telling you, they are better then the old pre 64 m 70 in most respects.
 
I have a SS Alaskan laminate in .338 WM as well. Build quality is top notch, and gun is super accurate...clover leaf 3-5 rounds at 100 yards if not shot too quickly. I do think the safety is not as smooth as the pre-64's or New Haven guns, but everything else is better.
 
I have 3 of the newer M-70's, Featherweight in .243, Super grade 75th in 30-06, and an Alaskan in 375. Very well made, executed, and accurate rifles for the money. In my opinion the very best out there for the money. The new trigger will not set reliably below 3 Ibs. but that is not an issue for me. I have owned and used M-70's for 43 yrs. and these I think are the best they have ever turned out including the pre 64's.
 
I also have a 30-06 featherweight. It is a great, well made rifle and they are very accurate. I came from 10+ years of shooting magnums and am very happy with this rifle. Its first year hunting it put 3 animals on the wall as well as a few others that were not trophies. A 140" 4x4 whitetail, a cinnamon blackbear and a beauty 163" whitetail. It also has a few does under its belt also, one at over 400 yards. I'm very impressed and very happy with it, I just wish it fit my tall frame as well as the weatherbys, but it still fits ok and points like a good shotgun.
 
I have an 06 SG and a 375 Alaskan. Both shoot 5 under an inch with my hand loads. In fact I believe the best groups I shot with both were closer to half inch but that was clearly a mistake or luck because I don't shoot that well always.. But consistently under an inch and they feel great and have great finish to them.
