Experiences with Warne QD rings

Hi folks - are any of you using Warne QD rings? What is your experience with them - do they return to zero well? Any issues or complaints?

I have used EAW in the past with great results, but they are hard to come by these days and quite expensive. I had a bad experience with Leupold quick detachable rings, which used a lever on the side to release like the Warne rings. They were on a Remington 700 BDL in .338 WM and would tighten under recoil. So if you shot say 10 or 15 rounds the levers would be almost impossible to loosen by hand. Mind you this was like 25 years ago, so they may have changed since then.
 
"tightening levers" - some time ago I read about this phenomenon - the lever has inertia, and will turn with recoil when the rifle is fired - so, I had read to adjust the levers so they both point forward - can not turn to get tighter under recoil. I suppose same effect would occur if lever pointed straight back - however do not want them up or down - they will rotate under recoil and get tighter. I have the Warne version on perhaps two or three rifles - installed to have levers forward or reverse - I can not say I have had any difficulty with those. I have none on the "heavier kickers" though - the 338 Win Mag has Dual Dovetail type and the 9.3x62 has Weaver fixed rings. The 416 Rem Mag is not finished yet, so not sure what rings will end up on that one. Many of the rifles that I take for hunting do not have iron sights - so at first, there was no need for me to have Quick Detachable Mounts - then I started to sight in a second scope for the rifle - the "Quick Detach" mounts became a way to swap scopes without using tools - in the bush.

In circa 50 years of slogging bush - several bad slips and falls, I have never had a scope "die" on me that it needed re-sighting or replacement. However, I have had a scope "die" on a rifle range - it simply walked the bullet holes right off the paper target. Not sure I would know how to tell if a scope is dead or not, by looking at it - it certainly shows up when fired, though!
 
Potashminer - that sounds like a good explanation for the levers tightening. I used EAW rings on my Remington 700 Safari in .416RM with no problems at all.
 
Seem to remember playing with QD rings where you coul loosen the screw and position the lever whereever you wanted. Was a while back, don't remember what they were, just popped into the mind.
 
I was just playing with some Warne QD levers - as if the locking bolt head or nut on the cross bolt is spring loaded - simply lift the lever and position it where you want - no tools needed. Does not seem to affect the "quick detach" function, although I have never tried it to see it it affects the "return to zero" or not.
 
I’ve used them and Leupold and others and never had an issue with any of them so far anyway!
 
I run Warne QDs on CZs without any problems at all. The rings do tighten but it has nothing do do with the levers tighten because they don’t move. The integral dovetails have a slight taper and on the first shot move very slightly and seat a tiny bit farther forward and wedge tighter. If you have weak thumbs an empty cartridge case makes a handy snipe.

I have a set on a 308 with picatinny bases...They have retained zero over time and have also returned to zero when the scope has been removed and then reinstalled...Solid good looking mounts for sure.

And inexpensive to boot.
