So what do you guys think? Value?

Yeah, more and better close ups of the receiver markings, firing proofs, any numbered parts particularly where the bolt is numbered at the root. Close ups of that are essential to tell if the bolt has been ground and renumbered. Close ups of the wood are good especially around the bolt cut out to tell if the wood has been sanded or not. Fakery abounds in K98k of Nazi production and the fakers are becoming very good. Don't know about the grenade launcher, finish looks a little new.

I'm just going to echo what's already been said. If you're looking to spend the big bucks on a matching k98k then you need detailed pics of all the numbers, bolt cutout, stock proofs, etc. Once you get the pics, post them up or there are several of us on here willing to help out via pm or email.

It's so hard to tell with these pics, but I'd check the handguard S/N. The lower band is tilted forward which is common with mismatched handguards. It's also on backwards, but we can fix that.

More photos definitely required as mentioned.

Given the condition, even if this is a matching K98k don't get too carried away with the price. When it comes time to get your investment back, typically advanced collectors always spends the big bucks for top condition.

Looks to me like someone dressed up a really rough K98k to get top dollar. I doubt those items came together.

It is a bnz 41 (Steyr 1941) rifle with an incomplete grenade launcher. General Info here: http://www.ycgg.org/pdfpages/ww2/Steyr.pdf

From the bluing/rust it may be unrefurb'd. Really tough to say without better pics as mentioned.

Condition, matching parts, and whether the rifle is forced matched or not will determine price. BNZ 1941 rifles are not rare and even if all matching in that condition, you might fetch $1000 in Canada.

The sling looks like it might also be original.

Even with bad pics, I like the launcher at least the rear elevation site. There are repro's out the (French and GMAX) but they only replicate the Key, Launcher/Cup and grenades - but neither company takes the time to replicate the rear aiming device. These rear aiming devices were actually abandoned or lost in the field quite often and if the bubble is still working that is a good sign. Even a complete repro kit sells for $300-500 (I sold a GMAX kit for $350 US in the Spring).

Grenade launching kits sell for $1500 + (Launcher, cup, grenade, rear site and original leather case), this one is far from complete but may be worth something because it might help someone finish off an incomplete set. The parts from the launcher might be worth more than the rifle believe it or not.

I'll buy every matching vet bringback you can locate in that general condition for $1000 and will have fun making $800 on each one I don't keep.

This is NOT 1999 anymore.

The op's rifle can't be evaluated with such poor photos of none of the right areas.

What do you guys feel is that value of a nice German grenade launcher set complete with pouch these days?

I've seen the dealers asking $1500 but they aren't moving very quickly. I sort of feel they are one of the German militaria items that might have tanked a little in the last few years?

I bought a fairly good condition, complete grenade launcher set (cup, wrench, sights, pouch, etc) a number of years ago. Can't remember what I paid exactly, but it wasn't particularly cheap. Eventually sold it about five years ago, took a pretty good bath on it. Had it up on collectors sites for months, no interest. Finally wound up selling it for.... it was just under $1000 I think.

Since I got into reenacting, I've been looking for a replacement set. I agree, they seem to be not worth nearly as much as they used to. The most I've seen a complete set sell for lately, not on dealers website, was in the same $1000 ball park. Without the rear sight, I've seen them go for as little as $500. Relic grade ones can hardly be given away.

They're neat and all, but I'm just not sure I want to put out the money for something that is essentially a display piece.

Badgerdog you sob! That's awesome!!! Crate for grens even!! Colour me jealous.

I agree Steve. I think these have stagnated and will come down in price.

They don't seem that sought after, and when for sale, seem to sit.
I can see it, they only display well on a rifle. And grenades are hard to get as well.
