I have a shotgun that I am refurbishing, I've pretty much done, but the one thing I haven't done is the blueing on the barrel/action. I kinda like the exposed metal, gives it a stainless look, and it will better match the colour I picked for the wood.

Is there anything I can do to the metal so it won't rust? (please don't say WD40) :?

Paint-it with stainless Armacoat OR clear the white metal with Armacoat Clear

Since i paint 2 tone with the stainless and black from Armacoat, i have about 4-5 firearm to paint with it each month

VERY tough paint

A coat of vaseline or spray bedding/mold release will stop the air from getting at the metal, hence slows down the rusting, needs to be very thoroughly degreased afterwards before blueing can be done. I use a product from Brownells called "hold" for short term pre blueing storage. Typically I get all the beadblasting done for matte jobs, then spray the parts with hold, do the polishing of the parts that need to be shiny and immerse them straight from the buffer to the tank, then do the matte stuff which may be a few days old but perserved with the " hold"
