Please excuse my ignorance but shotguns are not in my field of expertise.

What is the difference between these two models of remington pumps. I know the wingmaster is more money. What makes it cost more and is it truely worth the extra cash. I've owned an 870 express and had no issues with it at all.

I'm thinking on getting another pump action for next fall and wanted something decent. Another express would do the trick but I was wondering if the upgrade to the wing master might be a better idea.

Thanks for all of your help

I have owned both, the wingmaster was finished nicer, and it had a metal trigger/guard assembly, while the express had a synthetic trigger/guard assembly.

The Wingmaster and the Express are the same Remington Model 870 shotgun. The Wingmaster is the high end, blued metal, better wood and better finishsd version. The Express is the low end parkerized metal, pooer wood and pooer finished version.I have had both in 28 gauge at one time or another. The Wingmaster is a much nicer looking shotgun than the Express but both have worked with out a flaw for myself.

its more than just external finish.

the Wingmaster internals are more precisely machined, out of the box the action is smoother, all machining marks are polished off and then it is gloss blued. bolt is polished and chromed. the triggergroup is black anodized aluminum. the entire gun is easier to keep from corroding because of the polished surfaces. same goes for the barrel.

with the Express, the machining is rougher and the machining marks are just bead-blasted over and then matte blued (or whatever it is they do to them these days, they keep making the finish crappier). the triggergroup is in a hunk of plastic. slightly more difficult to keep from corroding because of the rough finish that holds moisture and is difficult to wipe down. despite being brand new, and bead-blasted over at the factory, i can still see some small machining marks and pits and things on my Express receiver.

there is a very significant difference in fit and finish.

now whether or not you actually care about that difference is the real question. for a working gun thats going to get beat up anyway, the difference between a Wingmaster and Express is absolutely insignificant. if this is something you want to purchase as an investment to hand down to your grandkids one day, then the difference is very significant. function/reliability is the same.
the choice is yours, both guns are priced fairly for what they are - you get what you pay for.

As has already been pointed out, other than the quality of the finish, the major difference is the material that the triggerguard/assembly is made of.Many people are not even aware that their express has a synthetic trigger guard.
