Am repairing a Cooey 82 stock that was smashed into 4 large pieces and missing all the little splinters. was taken out of the garbage. anyway, its looking good with its patched & pegged repairs and so on. problem is, I'm 5'11" and my 12 year old is 5'8", and the 82 has a really short trigger pull length, about the length of a Daisy red ryder.

was/is the standard way to extend simply to fit and fasten an appropriate shaped and sized block with glue and pegs followed by final shaping and finishing?

i don't have the barrel assembly or bolt, so I am just doing this to hang on the wall until such pieces materialize.

I have never saw or heard of an ordnance way of extending a M82 Cooey butt. My cadet corps had 384 on issue and none had an extension. I remember the number 384 because I had to count them once a year.
The easiest way to extend and maintain the original configuration and lengthen the pull is to put on a slip on recoil pad.

I cannot comment on the Cooey, but two piece Lee Enfield No 1 butts were assembled with a dovetail running from toe to heel. As I recall, the female is on the forward section. and the male on the rear.

^^^^ thanks for all the suggestions. I'm a wood worker by nature. i see the one i like. like i said, there is no actual gun going in the stock yet because i do not have one, so i have time to do this part.
