extending the magwell on a Shadow

If you do this the gun will not be eligable for IPSC Production or SSP in IDPA.

But if you're shifting to Standard or Open with your gun then CZ Custom has a magwell that fits the 75 which should also fit the Shadow.

If it's like the ones on the 1911's it is held on by an extended length mainspring base plug pin.

Im not planning on competing, just going for the cool factor, I've seen this one but they only have it in silver which IMO is ghey on a black gun. Is it very hard to install? Thanks

If you have the tools and skills to do a more or less full strip down of most of the gun other than the action then adding a magwell will not be difficult.

Then I'd suggest just leave well enough alone for now.

Besides, I didn't think of it until last night when I was looking over a Standard class gun with a magwell but the magazines also need to be modified to swap the base pads over to ones with no material that extends out the front and sides. So the stock magazines will not work with a magwell. So again it's best to just leave well enough alone.

To help you learn more about your gun check out this link. It's a pictorial about doing a trigger job on the gun. But if you're not much of a metal worker and don't understand what can happen if you start getting heavy handed with the tools I'd suggest you just study and try the parts that are related to only the disassembly and reassembly and skip over the work on the action that they show.

But one mod you can do that is well worth the effort and cost and is easy with the instructions shown is to swap out the main spring for a reduced power spring. This will do an amazing amout to lower the pull effort in both the DA and SA trigger pull and will make you smile a LOT more than putting a magwell on your gun.

Also a little hint. None of the pins that need to be pushed out need a hammer other than the trigger pivot pin. And you should not have to take that one out other than for very special needs. If a pin is tight and won't easily push out it's because a spring or something else is holding them. Remove the pressure on the part and the pins can all easily be pushed out with no more than hand force.

This means that first the magazine brake needs to come out before the mainspring plug is removed since the magazine brake jams against the side of the plug. The instructions in the link show them taking the brake out after the mainspring plug pin but if you do that it makes working with the mainspring plug a lot more difficult.

By the way. Shooting handguns in matches is hellishly fun. It's like the difference between riding a motorcycle in rush hour where you're stuck puttering along with the masses to racing on a track. You really should look into what events are on in your local area for IPSC, IDPA and even local club speed steel or similar. It'll give you a whole new reason for owning and using handguns.

I would love to, but the ammo costs alone, never mind time constraints would kill me..
