Is Extra-low Dispersion glass (ELD) worth the extra bucks in a spotting scope?

If you talk to any photo buff they claim the ED is worth the extra $$

If you are a bird watcher and want to enjoy all the vibrant colour or take picture through the spotting scope, the ED class might be worth the extra $$$. If you are using it to look at black and white targets, save the money.
