Eye protection?

Hey all
So im booked for an orientation at my new range. One thing they require is that you have your own eye and hearing protection.
I have some ear protection, but im wondering if i need eye protection as i wear glasses. Im planning on calling them to verify, but in the case they say that glasses alone wont cut it, im wondering if anyone out there has a good source for prescription safety glasses.

For a short term fix you can go to any hardware store and get a pair of glasses that fit over your prescription glasses. Think high school shop glasses. Long term you may be okay with your existing glasses by adding the side protectors that clip on to the arms of your existing glasses.
 
Anyplace that makes prescription glasses gives you the option of having safety glass installed... Most guys have it done if they work in trades etc, or if they are shooters... Cheapest option is like sallen mentioned... but how comfortable/clear your view will be is another story
 
I wear glasses also and it's never been a problem. I will mention my glasses are larger and not the little reader style ones, my frames and lenses are plastic as well.

BUT having said that I do have/wear safety glasses for work that slip over top of my eye glasses. They are not pretty but protect me. They cost me $8 bucks I bought them at work authority I think. Mark's did not carry them.

The problem with regular glasses are they are not impact resistant so if something happens the glasses could break and cause damage to your eyes. Additionally, you will protect your everyday eye-wear from scratches of dust/debris etc.

I also want to get prescription safety/shooting glasses but they are pricey. I wish the discount online guys made them :(
 
Given your location, I assume you are talking about EOSC. I believe their policy is that if your glasses are the composite lenses, then you are ok, otherwise you need the safety's.
For the purpose of the course, it may depend on the instructor.
Having said that, my partner was looking for a pair for her safety course and found a perfect pair at Acklands Grainger on Hawthorne Rd. They were crazy expensive too.......$3.15 (The Home depot, Crappy tire ones etc, did not fit...at least not with her glasses)

I would still fire off an email to them just to be safe.

just getting into shooting now(waiting for my pal to come in the mail) and also have glasses. Ive always been a bit of a gear whore in other hobbies, so basic safety glasses on top of my glasses were not a very attractive option for me. Looked at prescription inserts and regular shooting glasses, and decided their were enough benefits for myself to make it worth the cash(smoke lenses for sunglasses-not a fan of clip ons, work, as well as maximizing comfort and safety while shooting). Picked up the ESS crossbow with suppressor frame, with smoke and clear lens and the prescription insert kit. It was about $130 for all that, and if you shop around for lenses some place like hakim optical or other cheaper optical place should be able to fill your prescription for a reasonable price. I opted to just have my current place put in my lenses, cost more than my shooting glasses but I wanted the best I could get. I freakin love them, they fit my face really well, have a great seal, are comfy, fit under my ear protection fine, and i can depend on them more than some 2 dollar safety glasses that hang half off my face. If you have a few other ways you can get use out of shooting glasses and cannot or do not want to get contacts or other solutions, I would say go for a good pair. Otherwise, I think a lot of people could just live with the cheap pair over their regular glasses.

Thats great to here!! I have a pair of safety glasses that fit over my regular specks, and i think ill probably just bring them with me in case my current glasses dont cut it!

Great info!! thanks for the feedback! I have been looking for an online place to get some prescription glasses.
 
I went on eBay and bought a few pair of military surplus Revision SawFly ballistic glasses for about $10 a piece. They are surplus, but still in nice condition, some as good as brand new, and came with changable lenses if you want the sun shades.

Here's an example, though a few bucks more than I paid.

All prescription lenses are impact resistant. Your regular specs, assuming they're big enough(the 'granny glasses' style are not), will do nicely. You can go with whatever fits over those though.

Every club has it's own rules. To tell him that his regular specs will do when the club he is looking to join specifically say ear and eye protection must be worn to complete the new members safety course is not really being helpful. I guess it helps boost your post count though
 
I just wear my regular glasses at the range. A hat with a brim keeps shell casings out. When I asked if it was OK I was told that if they're plastic it's fine.
 
These are great some military guys swear by them, I have 4 pairs including green, rellay good value for those not needing prescription.

Nicolls on Canotech rd, a Police supply store has Revision brand with 3 lens covers, clear, green and amber for about $120.. plus you can add insert if you need a prescription.

Replacement parts lenses etc are available .. I have two pair on order, wife and myself.
 
Ask your optometrist. Mine was able to source me glasses specifically for shooting that I had made with my prescription. He can do the same for any other type (I really don't know what the difference is between "shooting" glasses and safety glasses - they looked the same to me). They were pricey ($250), but my benefits covered it.

I went to a safety supply store and they sell inserts for about $15 each that clip into the wrap around style glasses like UVEX ones. For another $60 or so you can take your prescription to Walmart and they will throw some lenses in them for you. I've never paid over $100 for safety glasses. The wrap around ones are good because you can get different lenses like tinted, yellow, 50/50 etc, depending on the day.
 
I used to just wear my prescription glasses at my indoor range. After I had a couple of shell casing get stuck behind my glasses I switched to Revision Sawfly with a prescription insert. Very good protection, comfortable, and fit well under my hearing protection. Only downside is the rims for the prescription lenses are quite noticeable and not the best look if you are style conscious.
