Eye relief on Zeiss Conquest?

Good evening...

I just finished mounting a new Zeiss conquest on a brand new Ruger M77.

I find that the eye relief is a little close, even with the scope as far forward as it can go in the factory rings.

If I hold my head straight up and look at the target as I bring the rifle up it is OK, but if I bring my head forward the slightest amount to find my old cheekweld I lose the periphery.

Is this a problem specific to Zeiss?? I should probably decide whether I want to keep it before I shoot it...return it as a new scope or one shot and it's a used scope.

Anybody had any experience with this?
 
I have the same problem with a 3-9 Conquest. The occular bell/housing is so big that it limits the distance that the scope can be moved forward. Sometimes it's easier to use a different scope than to explore mounting options, especially if you prefer low rings. Leupolds have a short eye-piece, that will take care of that issue. I just swapped the Conquest around to an application that worked, and kept buying VX111s.
 
I have had the same problem with my Sako rifles. I was originally using optiloks, I switched to Burris signature rings and bases problem solved. The same issue also exists with Talley lightweights and Burris FF11's.

All that being said, I really like my Conquests and run two of them at present. To my eye they are just nicer than the Leupold offerings.
 
That would let you utilize those free factory rings. Even if the Loopy costs a couple bucks more, you'll still be ahead in this case.

Actually the Leupold was about $20.00 less than the Zeiss. At this dollar figure ($600.00 +) $20.00 is inconsequential.

All that being said, I really like my Conquests and run two of them at present. To my eye they are just nicer than the Leupold offerings.

I had a Leupold in one hand and a Zeiss in the other hand when I bought this..the Zeiss was noticably brighter than the Leupold.

Screw it...it's only money.
 
The usual...better than I can. Actually, it's a lovely rifle to shoot.

I got to the range late (1430) and with the time taken to break in the brand new barrel mixed in with other shooter's target changes & cease fires I only got a dozen rounds off by dark (1630.) 8 inches of heavy greasy west coast snow didn't help anything go faster.

Back tomorrow & see if I can get on to the 200 yard dinger.
