Want to improve over a 6Br
Pros and cons for accuracy, barrel life, ease of forming, load development
Whats your thoughts
Thanks

The 6.5x47 was invented to replace the 6br for CISM with the same accuracy but with better barrel life and to easily feed from a magazine. It is a standard off the shelf part now for brass etc. and with an 8 twist you can shoot the heavies as well and I would only shoot the heavies even for 300 to 600. No case forming needed and Lapua obviously makes the brass for it. Having said that the 6br is still a decent performer at 900m let alone 600. The 6x47 is very good but you need to form brass and all that stuff and it will burn the barrel faster. Barrel burners are those with a smaller bore and more fuel, a ratio of the hole size to the fuel burnt. I currently have a 22x47 Lapua and a 6.5x47 Lapua, I hope to shoot the 6.5 tomorrow for the first time. I am almost afraid to stick my bore scope in the 22.

Go with the Dasher. The 6-6.5 Lapua really never worked out. From all I understand world wide the 6-6.5 is intermittent on shooting due to it's small rifle primer. Some shoot some don't and varies greatly from barrel to barrel for shooting ability. I would consider a straight 6.5 Lapua. I would consider it totally equal to the Dasher and a slight advantage because it can shoot 140 grain bullets for better wind drift. Having said that the last match I shot in, the winners were a 6.5 x 47 in first, a plain 6mmBR in second, and a 6mm Dasher in third. All separated by V count and one point.

you didn't ask but i would look at the 6mmCM (Competition Match).

It is a 243 blown out to 6CM. you can shoot 243 brass as fire forming loads in the chamber with good results. barrel life will be based on how hot you run the string. the CM uses slower burning powder which give better barrel life.

check out the cover page on 6brv http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/ Joe Hendricks of Team Remington is the 2014 NRA High Power National Champion.

here is an extensive discussion about the 6CM

others wise Dasher between the 2 you have chosen

Best of luck

I have 2 6x47 lapuas that shoot lights out but my next may be a 6.5x47 lapua just to make things a little easier. It is a pita to do the brass.

I have 6br and a 260 rem, the 260 will have a new barrel for next year. looking at a new build need to show up at matches with lower fired round count. and use the 6Br more for practise
Tuf crowd in Kamloops shoot a 75 with 10v and be in 6th place only reason in 6th and not lower was that half of the Kamloops guys were out hunting or something, must be something in the water they drink there.

I have 6BR for Precision Rifle Shooting. I've shot between 300 yards and 1000 yards. In my opinion, 6BR and 6 Dasher are pretty close. Only 2 inches drop at 600 yards. Just turn one click "UP". Save some powder and gunsmith cost for rechamber.

I plan to use 6BR for F-Class this year but I couldn't find many F-Class matches in Ontario except Ottawa.

^^^^ I agree a 6BR is hard to beat out to 600m I have 2 and they are accurate with a 105 grainer @2800+fps the balistics are good and they are easy to load for.

This notion just isn't going to happen-

If you're looking for fast feeding for PR style matches, or timed relays, that's one thing- in which case the 243 Win and a mild load will do the trick and last a long time. If you're worried about dropping a point due to missing a 2 mph gust halfway downrange, then stoutly loaded 243 Win is the medicine but you'll rebarrel in three seasons (given your said barrel is already in your posession). Otherwise, the 6BR will be limited only by the archer. The 6x47, 6-6.5x47L, 6CM, 6SLR, BRX, Dasher, Smasher, Basher, etc etc are all simply more expensive and time-intensive ways to build a flyswatter for the same mosquito.

Practise, practise, practise some more. The guys in Kamloops are very good because they shoot all year long.

Attention to their gear, optics, loading tuning and winds.... very positive results.

Consider adding the 260 Rem, and my faves the 260 Rem improved and Mystic to your mix.

When the winds are blowing in that bowl, bigger can be very helpful.

But the 6BR properly set up, with a good driver is no slouch. You can't buy enough tech to win. At some point, you just need to know which way the wind is blowing ;-)
