F.D. Claudin French revolver

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any info on this old 19th century revolver that is a family heirloom of mine. Other than knowing it is manufactured by F.D. Claudin in France I don't really know much, but I think it is of Franco-Prussian War era? Also have a matching paper cartridge rifle from the same era to go along with it but don't have pics of that handy.

Strange thing is that my family has these French firearms because all of my ancestors are either English or Scottish so no idea how they were acquired.

Pinfire revolver, popular during The War of Northern Aggression, (AKA American Civil War) so it would fit the Franco-Prussian War era. Thousands were imported to North America. The pinfire cartridge was invented by Casimir Lefaucheaux in 1828.
 
You should get some small metric screws and find one that fits to hold the front trigger gard on better.
Thats troble just waiting to happen and then the back screw gets busted off in the frame when that front part gets hooked on something.

The French made some good Quality Revolvers so dont be thinking the guns are junk just cause there not English eh. ;)
 
Very pretty revolver, I myself have a couple pinnies.

With the pile of projects I have on the go I have so far only repaired the pocket model I have.

I agree with the previous poster, if you get a new screw for the triggerguard you will have a nice arm there!
