Fabarm Alpha or Browning Citori?

Well, I've decided to take the plunge and get me a 'good' Over/Under. I have a TOZ34ER, but it's just not in the 'nice' O/U category.

I've essentially narrowed it down to these two - a used Citori or a new Fabarm Alpha Field. My limit is about $1500.

It will be used for both clays and waterfowling, about a 50/50 mix. I'm not looking for fancy wood, nice engraving or whatever. I want a good, solid, reliable and well made O/U.

Can anyone give me some pros/cons for both? I've done extensive reading on shotgunworld.com, but for some reason I trust the opinions on here a little more... :D

I know Browning is well known and has a cult-like following, but is the entry level Citori better than a Fabarm?

Anyway, just looking for a little sway... I'm thinking about 28" barrels.

Thanks!

If you want to pay extra for the Browning name buy one. I haven't seen a Browning (new) for $1500. I have a couple of Fabarms and a Citori 12 & 20. For the $ you can't match the Fabarm -- the tribore bls shure tame heavy loads. Fabarm O/U's are great! Only my opinion.

I stopped by TSE tonight to check out the Fabarm O/U's in person. Even the Alpha Field (low end - basic wood and engraving) was much nicer than I anticipated! Locked up solid, and opening it was smooth as butter. Pointed well, and I really like the fiber optic front... I was expecting that to be an aftermarket add-on.

Granted, I'm no o/u expert, having only fired a round of clays with a Red Label, and one pheasant hunt with a Citori. Well, I own a TOZ34, but that doesn't really count... :)

Anyway, I'm really leaning towards the Fabarm. Thanks for the advise so far... now, someone convince me to get a Browning!

Well, I ended up buying an Alpha Field - but returned it the next day. I was so stupid, I forgot to check the cast - and I'm LH! Browning and Ruger are cast neutral, and I just assumed the Fabarm would be as well.

Oh well - since they didn't have any LH in stock (ANY model) I ended up upgrading somewhat, and ordered an Axis Field with 28" barrels and a LH stock. TSE says 3-4 months! Arghhh!!!

Good things are worth the wait - I just hope it gets in before hunting season!

Canucklehead,

I know you posted this last year. I was wondering how the Axis Field worked out. I'm a lefty as well and was thinking of either a Fabarm Alpha, Axis or a Browning Cynergy.
