Fabarm Dilemma

I have a dilemma: I have a Fabarm Martial Pro Forces and I really enjoy it, but I am thinking of selling it. Here is why:

- Recoil: this thing is nice and light which is great, but it kicks like a damn mule with slugs. So much so, that I have developed a flinch when shooting heavy recoil slugs. I know, I’m a pussy  :)

- Accessories: They one thing I want it a side saddle, unfortunately not available for the Fabarms

- Capacity: the five shot mag is ok, but I think I want a 7 or 8 shot mag

- Stock: I want to go back to a traditional butt stock, I find the pistol grip gets in the way more than its useful.

The Fabarm is a great gun but I am feeling drawn toward an 870 Tac or P maybe even the right 590A1 another possibility is the Supernova Tac with a mag extension. The heavier weight of these guns would help with felt recoil plus they have better recoil pads, higher capacity and better stock options.

The use is general purpose blaster/camp/defence, so the 14 inch barrel is nice but not needed. The only necessary add-ons are a picatinny rail for my TLR-1, a sling (probably 2 point as it will have a longer barrel) and a side saddle. 18.5" to 20" barrel is ideal for my purposes I think.

I still believe the Fabarms are great guns, but I think I want something less exotic with more options. I guess my tastes are changing.

What would you guys do?

Flame suit on :p :)

I felt the same way, so I bought the telescoping stock and upgraded it and added muzzle brake for weight to kill recoil, added the powerpak to gain some more weight and a buttstock side saddle, I actually find the pistol grip very comfy when hunting birds/rabbits, with the pump rail and chokes I find I can mod the gun quickly and effortlessly to suit my needs, despite all this mine is up for sale also, zero complaints against the gun however

sell it

You won't notice much of a difference in recoil between your Fabarm and the Remington... at least while shooting full power slugs.

You might want to invest a few $ in Knoxx stock, it does an amazing job at thaming recoil...

I'm not sure if the only supplied by Fabarm works the same...

these things I know, but the Knoxx doesn't feel right to me. Believe me I checked it out.

I was under the impression that the heavier guns would handle the recoil better, plus you can get better recoil pads.

Maybe try the reduced recoil slugs. I think SFRC has a bunch in stock.

Funny though, I like my fabarm because of the recoil. 3" slugs is a blast.

recoil is only one part of my "issue", I guess I want to try something different more than anything, plus the other things I posted.

I guess I need to set a price and put it on the EE and see what happens. Writing this thread has helped me decide. Nothing wrong with Fabarms, but I want options.

Sell it, if your having doubts about it sell it and try something different. Nothing is more exciting than picking a new gun...Plus if you eventually change your mind you can always buy another one. Sell it, get something new and live a little!!!

I love my fabarm. Mine is only the martial composite, so it has a normal stock.

I came from a mossberg 500 mariner. This gun is way better than my mossy was!

To each his own. Don't like it, sell it!

^ I have that gun also. I suggest the Mossy 590a1. It is a tank and sucks up the recoil . It has the mag capacity that you need.

Also you are a sissy...:p

I've had an 870P but sold it and bought the Fabarm and didn't notice any recoil reduction when shooting the 18.5" shottie vs the 14". 5+1 isn't bad! I personally don't see the need for 8 or 9+1 in a shotgun, but to each their own. One thing I do agree on is that there are alot more goodies you can put onto your 870 or 590.

I should clairify I don't feel "pain" from the recoil I have developed a flinch, which I didn't have prior, which has effected my ability to shoot the gun accurately with slugs.

IMO a Limbsaver or equivalent recoil pad would take a lot more of the edge off the recoil than going to a slightly heavier pump.

finding one that fits is the problem

Get a "grind to fit" pad, you can have a gunsmith install it if you're not able to. Also are you sure that muzzle blast isn't a big factor? I'm pretty recoil hardened but I find the muzzle blast of a short barrelled shotgun with hot loads starts to bother me after awhile.
