I currently have a Rem. 870 express (synthetic model). I bought it with the primary intention of using it for hunting. A friend of mine loves the gun and asked me if I would sell it to him. I too love the gun but I saw a couple Fabarms for sale on the TSE site that have caught my eye. I was wondering if I should keep my 870 for hunting or if I should sell it to my friend and get the Fabarm? Unfortunately the funds just arent there for both. TSE has the Fabarm Composite and the Martial Proforces (both w/14" barrels). Keep in mind that Im not looking for a home defense gun here, this would be used solely for the purpose of hunting. Thanks.

Do you really want to hunt with a 14 inch barrel? The advantages of reduced blast, longer sighting plane and better balance all point to a longer barrel for hunting. What advantage do you gain with the shortie?

What are you hunting ?

I really like the Fabarms and am thinking of getting another... 870s are a dime a dozen (though there is a reason they are so popular....)

Well geeez, maybe that's why I made this thread. I am wanting others opinons. I neither want nor don't want to hunt with a 14" barrel. I've got friends who hunt with 20" barrels and I've even got a friend who has a s/g with a whopping 6ft barrel. I just want to know what others think about the ability of the Fabarm as a hunting gun over the 870, plain and simple.

Fabarm Martial shotguns are not ideal hunting shotguns in my opinion, especially if you have the pistol grip stock. Get it with the regular stock and then maybe it would be ok.... but 14" is too short a barrel to swing smoothly, so buy the longer barrels. If it's upland birds, go with 26 or 28".
Synthetic stock is nice, but the gun is so light that recoil could be an issue for some.

It comes with ghost ring sights, which are not what you want for hunting.... uh... what did you say you were hunting?

Really, the 870 is a better platform for hunting.

The 870 is far and away a superior platform for hunting right out of the box. It's also far and away the more versatile tactical shotgun platform because of all the available aftermarket possibilities, but you could spend alot getting there.

You've areguably already got the most rugged and reliable pump shotty ever devised, why mess with success? I doubt you'll find anything in the Fabarm that will give you much a superior shooting experience over the 870 other than it's a fair bit lighter gun.

The Martial composite does not have rifle sights. It also has a 28" sport barrel with interchangeable choke tubes available for it. So you can get a gun with a couple barrels for differing uses.
