Factory 16" Mossberg 500 barrel

Did Mossberg (or anyone else) make a factory 16" barrel for the 500/Maverick series?

I saw one recently with a vent rib and was just wondering if it was legit or not. (If it is, I wanna buy it!) :cool:

Rooster, better brush up on those rules about factory barrels on shotguns, buddy..

Dunno the answer to the OP's question though, sorry... (although a 16" vent rib sounds suspicious... 16" smooth maybe, but vent rib... I dunno)
 
Why would a 16" be restricted...?

I've never seen a mossberg under 18", except a 590, but it would certainly be cool! Where did you see it? The VR does sound suspicious as stated.
 
Never seen a 16" VR Mossberg barrel. There's pretty much zero market for one as it would require a $200 NFA tax stamp in the US.

Most likely cut-down. Installing it would create a prohibited firearm.

The minimum barrel length rule doesn't apply to firearms with manual repeating actions, only to centerfire semi-autos. The critical length is the 26" OAL; go shorter than 26" and the gun is restricted. Thus a pump shotgun retains its non-restricted status even when equipped with very short barrels, provided the gun's total length is no shorter than 26".

I've never seen a factory 16" tube for a 500. Just the common factory 18" cylinder choke tube with the bead like the one on my 500A.

I agree with Boomer regarding barrel length and pump shotguns.
 
Never knew that. The shortest I ever saw for sale in Cabelas,Lebaron, and any other sporting good store was an 18" barrel......so I assumed. Don't I feel silly. Then again, I did say "I think".
