Have you any experience with factory 280 ammunition?

What works best for you for accuracy and game killing efficiency?

I have used a Ruger 77 in 280 Rem since 1980. initially I used handloads with 140 gr or 150 gr Sierra BTSP but when Hornady came out with the Light Magnum and the 139 SST I switched. About this time I acquired a Win Mod 70 Fthrwt. These work wonderfully in both rifles. This factory ammo was sub MOA in both rifles and I have taken moose (4), elk (7), black bear (11), WT (30+), MD (15) and Vanc Isld Black tail (30+) with it. They were all one-shot kills at ranges from 70 yds to 350 yds with an average of about 135 yds. One bear shot initially at just over 300 yds was given a followup shot at point of recovery only because we got too close too soon (had we waited another 15 mins or so it would have expired). All others were no more than a fifty yard recovery search or DRT. I have acquired a Rem 700 in 7mm Express that I will try this year but I am switching to the Hornady SuperFormance with the 139 gr SST for this as I think it will be easier on my old shoulder. All-in-all I think this is an excellent cartridge and the factory ammo of today is deadly. As usual you should try a few different factory loads to check accuracy in you rifle but for performance?? Good shot placement works awesome on anything with the new quality - read semi-custom - loads on the current market. Good Hunting and Shoot Straight!!
