Factory 30-06 for moose.

Anything over 180grs. Shot placement matters. For elk I carried 180gr in my .300 Win Mag, and didn't feel undergunned.

220 cor lokt express by remington, expands to a large mushroom deep penetration and thats a whole lot of lead, shot them into a log and split it to recover , they did as well as the 375 h+h .not the same energy but penetration was the same.

My last moose was shot with the winchester 180 gr accuboond load. It was a bang flop, one shot kill. I have used that load on antelope, black bear, mule deer, whitetail deer, and moose and it has never disappointed.

Hook got it right, 180gr bullets and the 30-06 are good for pretty much anything in North America short of big bears.

As for brand, I have had good luck with Federal blue box ammo in a number of guns and calibres.

Yep, and the rifle will tell you what is the best. Buy a box of each brand/line that is available locally and try em out.

I use Hornady Superperformance 165gn GMX. It penetrated 36", mushroomed perfectly, and stayed together. 30-06 @ 65 yds.

How do they shoot compared to the SST? I bought a box of 180gr SST's and they wouldn't shoot well at all in my rifle. Do you know if the GMX comes in 180?

My Win mod 70 likes 180gr Winchester power points. Not a premium round but shoots really well in that rifle. Wish my other rifles would shoot as well with cheap factory rounds. Drops moose and deer on the spot.

Use a well constructed 150 grain bullet. Remember, placement is more important then bullet weight or caliber.
I would rather shoot a moose in the heart with a 223, then in the guts with a 338.
