Hi, I just purchased a marlin 45/70 rifle. I am interested to know what factory ammo is suitable for mainly bear defence? I do not reload but was told that the factory ammo is underpowered and inadiquate in performance. Is there a specific type of factory ammo that stands out from the rest?Is is readily avaliable?

I am stuck with factory ammo unless someone sells something better in performance.
 
Any of it. Most factory .45-70 is loaded down to BP velocities as there are all kinds of Trapdoor Springfields out there and the manufacturers have no idea what firearm their ammo will be used in.
