A few days ago I stumbled onto some 300 WSM in Winchester Supreme 150 E-tips and 150 Power-Points for roughly the price of the empty brass and bought what they had of it. Couldn't really go wrong because I'd break even if it all had to be pulled down.

Anyway, I figured I'd at least give it a try in my Kimber 300 WSM. The E-tips grouped a tiny bit under MOA in -20 C weather which is plenty good enough though not as good as its favored handloads. That would be a bit much to ask.

The grey box power-point were a different and sadder story. The best they would do yesterday was 3 1/2 -4 inches. Pretty pathetic really, not worth the barrel wear to plink them off. On a bit of a whim I pulled one bullet and established that the jump to lands was almost exactly .100".

This is where you can jump in and say that I'm totally reckless, but I pulled a box of them partially out and re-seated them with a distance to lands of .015" with no other changes. Sort of like Mexican match but without changing the bullets. It wasn't like they were good for anything else and there are enough to be worth playing with.

Shot that box today in similar conditions in groups of three, and got groups from well under an inch on the low end to 1 1/2" at the worst. Average without resorting to a calculator was about 1 1/4" at 100 meters. Quite a difference from 4". Pressures seem to be just fine too so I have about a case of loading without actually loading anything to do.

Ain't science fun?
