Got a Lee Anniversary Reloading kit, and a deluxe three die set. Will be loading for a Marlin 336 tubular mag, and wondered if I need to buy the factory crimp die too? The literature that came in the die set said to use it if hunting.
The material in the Reloading kit advertises the crimp die, but then in the description of the 3 die set, it only mentions "most uniform neck tension".
I've heard I should crimp because of the tubular mag.
What's the general opinion?
Thanks!

The lee factory crimp die costs about $17, and since your hunting and will be loading and unloading the gun often crimping is a good idea as it prevents the bullet being pushed back into the case by recoil, spring tension. The lee also won't buckle cases and the trim length is not as critical, it even crimps bullets with no groove.

Your regular dies with the seating/crimping die will give you all the crimping required on the 30-30. After all, the 30-30 has been reloaded for best part of a century before the "Factory crimping die," was ever thought of.
When I got my Marlin 45-70 I was told the same thing you have been told--get a factory crimp die. So I did. I gave it a good try, then never used it again. The seating/crimping die gives excellent crimps, is more convenient and by the way, my dies are also Lees, for the 45-70.

Since you are using a single stage press, I would just adjust the seating die to crimp.

I reload .308 with my Dillon 550 and use a Factory Crimp die because it is more convenient to adjust the two functions separately, the space is available on the toolhead, and it is no extra work.

If you can, take back you deluxe die set, as you will probably never use the neck size die for .30-30 in hunting situations, and get the pacesetter dies, gives you the FL sizer, bullet seater and factory crimp die.
