You would have to shoot open class against the 65/284 the big 7mm 180gr &190gr bullets
The 204 might be respectable at 300m but just would not work past that, get your self a 223 and you can be very competive to 1000y
If thats the case then I would probably go with .308 as I already have dies and brass.Actually im finding it kinda frustrating getting specific info on f-class like when and where, what basic gear needed etc.I guess I need to talk to someone that competes to ask questions and get details.
You're only about an hour and a half from Cedar Springs, I would think that if you could make one of Maynard's 1 MOA Challange dates (http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=722929) you could have all your questions answered and more. You'd have a great day to boot!
You can find details about the "Intro day" events sponsored by the ORA here: http://www.ontariorifleassociation.org/ under "Introduction Day Applications". You can use their gear or being your own.
Apart from what you already have (rifle/scope/ammo/eye & ear protection) the only other things you'll need are a bipod or equivalent front rest, rear rest, and something to lie on. You can use a cheap floor mat from your house before committing to buying a real shooting mat. Come dressed to spend the whole day outdoors with whatever possible weather might happen, bring food and water for the day.
If you become addicted you can then hook up your shop vac directly to your wallet ;-)
The ORA ( Ontario PRA) has a class called Manufacturers F Class or FM. Your rifle combo should fit into that class. For now it may be an ORA class only and not country wide. Check the ORA website for more details. Unfortunately for you Savage FTR's and their longrange target rifles in 6BR and 6.5/284 have been included in this class.
