just wondering if anyone has ever stuck a borescope down one of these barrels after it has been shot 100 times or so and what did it look like. the reason i ask is i had a 300rum and after 400( not even close to hot) rounds i had crazy cracking from the throat and 1 inch down the barrel.

i never shot more than 3 rnds at a time with out letting it cool.
i thought i would at least get 1000 rnds before the barrel was cooked but when my buddy borescoped it he just started laughing. i was wondering if anyone had these same problems or if maybe i just got a dud.

There is an axiom in medicine that doctors treat the patient, not the monitors or equipment. The same applies to shooting. Just ignore what the borescope says and keep shooting. Luckily, barrels can't read.

that was the problem the gun started to loose accuracy at long distance so i bought a new barrel and had it chambered in 300win mag and i couldnt be happier. im not a gunsmith but the cracking i seen in the bore scope was too much to ignore.

My guess is that lengthening of the throat (ie throat erosion) was what caused your accuracy loss vs cracking.

Pitted barrels can shoot extremely well until they foul out.

A brand new barrel will shoot like crap if the throat is overly long.

Odds are you had a long throat and those rds just blew it far enough that the bullet would not engrave before leaving the neck. A longer bullet would have likely 'saved' the bore.

The borescope is likely the worse invention ever made. There are precious little things that look good under a microscope. Go by what happens at the target to determine level of accuracy.

Even those V. Secrets bombshells have flaws.....if you get to look close enough

PS est lifespan of a RUM is less then 1000rds.

I also believe that the 300 RUM is a bit more overbore then the 338 LM. It wouldn't be a fair comparison as 300 RUM burns more powder for it relative bore size.

If barrel makers gave away free bore scopes they wouldn't be able to make barrels fast enough to keep up with the demand. Factory barrels usually will not last as long as a quality stainless match barrel, however I have had a stainless match barrel that was just junk from the start.
