I was shooting some factory Federal American Eagle .45ACP 230grn FMJ rounds through my USP last night, and had a round with no powder in it. Without a doubt it was factory, I'm using Winchester primers for my reloads which are a different color than the factory stuff. It only went pop, and after careful examination the bullet was nicely stuck halfway in the barrel. There might have been some powder, but it couldn't have been much.

I called Federal and left a message, they called back and left a message for me, eveidently they want the bullet and casing (If I can figure out which one it was!) as well as wanting to talk to me. I'm curious to see how this goes and what they're going to say.

Thanks to PrairieMedic for taking the time, and lots of it, to hammer the bullet out of the barrel. :)

Can you advise the lot #, purchase date, location or any other info to help identify ammunition that might have similar problems?

By all means talk to the people from Federal, but I'm not sure about handing over the items just like that. Once they have them, you have nothing but a story to tell.

Glad you caught it and didn't tap-rack-kaboom yourself.

Not like you would ever be able to sue them or anything. After all there were no injuries or even an accident.

As far as them wanting the brass or bullet that doesn't make sense either. Not sure what they can learn from it. You would think they would be more interested in the lot # so they could cross reference with their quality control data and maybe find other cases like yours and issue a recall??

Simple fact is machines flub up sometimes or the person running them.

You were fortunate to catch it...and save yourself from a scary experience.

The bullet made it 1/2 way down the barell, so it would
most likely have been a partial charge. I'd send them
the lot #, etc, and a picture of the bullet for their
verification. Otherwise, send a coupon for a case, and
they can have the casings.

Good point on the coupon, try and get something free out of this :D. I thought they'd just want to know the lot number and whatnot, and before I send anything off I'll ask why they want it, I'd actually prefer to keep it. A picture is a good idea.

And PrairieMedic, the barrel cleaned up great and there's not a single mark on it.

That should help keep the price down........or do you mean a coupon for a single round?

Or you could send them a note and move on.
