Failure to extract

I am not into AR's but could not resist any longer and got a DA556.
I lubed up the new rifle and put about 75 rds through
and got a couple failure to extract.

Disassembled the bolt and cleaned but it continued to get worse.
A search turned up the extractor o-ring and spring core fix.

With an o-ring in I got 200 rds through and got one more FTE.

Is this a macgyver fix or should there be a o-ring on the extractor spring.
 
Agreed! But da556 is basically a norinco and have been know to have chambers machined out of spec and all sorts of different things. A person has to start some where, mags and ammo is a good place to start. As well as upgrading the extracter there quite weak and tend to let go of ammo at in opportune times.
 
Agreed they are a bit rough but the fired brass should indicate a rough chamber issue. It could just be me and my OCD but I'd one of my guns has an issue I want to know exactly what and why it's doing it. The extraction of my recently build AR is turned to the point I can put a bucket on the floor and has 95% of the casings land into said bucket. If it's indeed a very tight chamber, different ammo may not help. The fact he mentioned that after the oring installation it ran fine for 200 rounds then started acting up again would lead me to believe it's more than likely an out of spec extractor.

From what I hear about canam they will take care of you anyways.
 
I came across a Norc AR while back that had a small machining defect on the bolt,it was a small metal burr that was on one side of the lip of the bolt that was cause the brass to sometimes hang up in gun as opposed to getting properly extracted.if that your issue,5 minutes with a small file fixed it for that particular case.

Might not be your problem,but examining your bolt face/extractor would be a good place to start to look for your problem
 
I had the exact same problem with my da556 and turned out the extractor was out of spec . Wasn't flush with the bolt face it was a few thou short. Replaced bang bang bang
 
Thanks for the suggestions.
I figured Canam would take care of it but asked here just encase it was something I could do my self.
I will take a closer look and some pics and give them a call.
Other than this I am happy with what I got for the price.
Looking at my AR500 at a 100yds after, I have a new respect for the .223 20" 1in9 .
